Tatto Art Tips : Getting My 1st Tatoo and How to Take Care of a New Tattoo

November 19th, 2006 | Category: Tattoo Tips

Obviously there is some concern about getting a tattoo because when you get a tattoo, you risk getting an infection, pain and wonder about the possibilities of infections diseases. The process needs to be better understood. If you finally decide to get a tattoo you will go to a recommended tattoo artist. He will probably show you some designs to pick from. If you don’t like any of them you can ask him to do a custom one. Be careful when choosing the design of your new tattoo because you will live with it all your life. There are not lack of directories of tattoo studios and tattoo shops. So it is not hard to “find tattoo studio” perse. However, it is difficult to tell which one has good tattoo artist and equipment.

After you’ve flipped your list of tattoo studios, the next thing to do is visit them. BEfore you even enter a studio, get in your head that you are THE customer and don’t let anyone or the atmosphere intimidate you. A lot of tattoo studios are a small, a little dark and the people inside has all sorts of fierce looking tattoos. Go in confidently and look around.

Next, do take a look around the shop. look at the neatness of the stop. It is likely that there will be pictures and Flash (tattoo designs) all over the walls. There may also be price list and regulations. Look for signs that indicate sanitations. This is important in an age of before you look for an artist. If you have a good general feel, speak to the tattoo artist. Most of them are very helpful, especially when they know that you’re having your first tattoo. Do note that however, they should not be your source of information for everything. You should have done your research on general tattoo stuff before you look for an artist. If you’re convince that you’ve found a nice artist, do ask to see their portfolio. Do not be impressed by illustrations. They usually purchased from other artist who might not even to the tattoo job itself. You need to verify the work of your artist. The portfolio is a collection of photos of the artist’s work. If they don’t have one, beware. When you looking at the pictures, check a few things for example :

1. The line should be clean and well-defined ?
2. Are the borders uniform in width ?
3. Are the colors realistic and bright ?
4. Are the proportionals correct ?

If the tattoo artist has passed all these, and most importantly, you feel good about the artist. It’s time to go ahead with your first piece of art.

Anyway, afer getting a tattoo done you should know some aftercare tips that cannot be ignored. Normally, the tattooist will explain you how to take care of your new tattoo or he will give you a sheet with detailed instructions in case none of this happens I will explain you in the rest of this article what you should do.

First of all, when you get home, don’t jump immediately in the shower. Keep it dry (but also clean). Be sure to wash your hands very well before touching the new tattoo. This way you won’t have any complications of infections.

Next, go to the first drug store you find and buy a tube of A&D Ointment. Apply it on the tattoo the first four too six days. After it gets dry remove the old application with the piece of soft cloth and then apply another one. Be very careful not to rub too hard the new tattoo. Do not use soap in the first few day, it’s not recommended.

After you have applied the body lotion for around week you can stop doing that. A problem is that when the tattoo heals it will scab in some portions. When you will try to pick this cabs be very careful not to damage your tattoo design. So the best for you and your tattoo is to let it heal alone.

This the 76th Street Tattoo, located at the city area of Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. We were visiting them last week, while Pip (tattoo artist) was making tattoo on this Canadian guy. Lucky for us we were invited with friendly smile and Adrian, the representative of these tattoo artist showed us the tattoo tools, tattoo pictures (thanks guys!!) and he also gave us many info about tattoo history and advice. Luther on the hand, showed us the tattoo tools which were available for sale, and other tools which were used in their shop.

The left guy is Adrian and the other one is Luther. There are 3 tattoo artists who are capable to entertain the customers who are coming here. They got 2 tattoo artists who are working on part time and only work for 2 or 3 days a week. Here, you can also bring your own tattoo design or you can choose from the tattoo albums provided by them. Plus, you can also request for custumize design and discuss the idea on how you want the design to be made.

This is Pip(Tattoo artist) with the Canadian guy. He was busy on that time and wanted to concentrate working so, we didn’t have the time to chat. This Canadian guy told us he always wanted to do a tattoo. Finally, he decided to come and do it in 76th Street Tattoo - congratulation guys!! He was accompanied by his friend and already spent so many hours for tattoo making session. For your info, if you are doing big tattoo design or complicated and detail design, the tattoo making process will be divided into few sessions. Each session is about 3-5 hours, depends on the deal between tattoo artist and the customer. This is because the customer or the tattoo artist will be tired after 4 hours so they will continue it on the next session a few days later.

The tattoo pricing here is very reasonable and these guys are very friendly. If you are going to Kota Kinabalu on a vacation or business trip, please don’t hesitate to come by and visit this tattoo shop. Whether you are going for bornion tattoo design or other design, these guys will try their best to entertain you!!!
